I love learning new words and how the orchestra pit evolved. I love music and appreciate inside knowledge of how things come together for a performance.

Thank you for your lovely essay.

Appreciate the musical reflections/connections to what it means to be "Together in the Pit"(s) intoned into melodious ideas about how all of us can live through the dark days and nights this winter. And, the link to the ophicleide and my side excursions to the snake. LOVED THEM! I want to see a snake in person!

Thanks, Kayt, for your response. I thought the metaphor in this piece was genius. Help for the dark night. Go on Annie's website and you can hear her play some beautiful music. I especially like her duet with her grandfather on dobro.

Thank you so much for reading, Kayt! Aren’t the obscure historical instruments incredibly fun? I haven’t heard either of them performed in person, but I have seen the instruments themselves in museums.
